Noah’s Class Trip

I volunteered to chaperone Noah’s class on a field trip last week. Two bus-loads of Year 2 kids, dressed up in Victorian clothes, went to Manor Farm which has a reenactment of a Victorian era farm. We first went to a Victorian class room where the kids learned to be seen and not heard; wrote on slates with chalk; and played with old-fashioned toys on the playground. Guess who wound up with the dunce cap on?

The next stop was the dairy barn where we saw a cow being milked; a 12-hour old lamb; and a bunch of chickens. Then on to Meet the Animals where everyone got to hold a baby rabbit (which we learned is called a kitten), a baby duck and a baby chicken. The last stop was the Farm House where we got to wash dirty towels on a scrub board as well as a tour of the house.

It was a fun day out and I was really impressed with how well these kids behaved. I was expecting mayhem, but these kids at St. Francis School are a really good bunch.

Spring is Sprining

The English weather has improved immensley the past few weeks. First highs in the 50s and this week all in the 60s with lots of sunshine. I could really tell, though, when I came home from work to find Mary camped out in the back yard. Note the socks. That’s Mary’s signature move! The snowdrops have come and gone, the crocuses are almost gone and the daffodils are in full swing. Next month the bluebells will be out and I’ll be working hard at getting some nice photos of those. And best of all we change our clocks this weekend.

This past weekend I snuck out early to go take picutres at Portland Bill. I took a wrong turn in Weymouth which led me along the waterfront where all of the clubs are. It was 5:15am and there were lots of young people (and police) outside the pubs. I realized it was still yesterday for them!

Longdown Farm

Noah and I visited Longdown activity farm with some friends this weekend. We held rabbits and chicks, pet ducks and fed goats. We also generally misbehaved and went to the pub afterwards. Click on a picture to see more!

Snow!

It snowed! Like, for real! We haven’t seen more than a dusting of snow since we moved here. But yesterday we woke up to at least 2 inches (or 5 cm if your of that inclination). As usuall, click on the picture to see more.

Weekend in London

We all went to London on Saturday to meet up with Bailey Chapman and her husband Mort. We hadn’t seen Bailey in about over 10 years! Sorry I don’t have any pictures of them, but I couldn’t bring myself to torture them with the camera. However, Noah and I came across an area on the South Bank where the skateboarders and cyclists hang out.

We sat and watched them for almost an hour! There were some guys there doing amazing tricks on their skateboards.
