St. Francis Fun Fair

06-07-07_1734Every year about this time St. Francis School (where Mary and Noah go) holds a Fun Fair where they celebrate the culture of another country. This year the theme was The United States of America! They had lots of booths where you could play games, eat or buy stuff. There was the Kentucky Tattoo table, the Indiana Lottery booth, the Kansas Cake table, the Washington Beer Tent, and many others to bewildering to recall. As you can imagine we felt right at home.

Of course the most popular was the Texas Bull Ride which Mary and Noah both tried.  In fact, the school had events throughout the week. On Wednesday they ate American Food for lunch. Now I’d like you to ask yourself what you think American food is. Hotdogs? No that’s German (frankfurter). Apple pie? That predates colonial America. Barbecued ribs? Now we’re getting somewhere. Soul food? Definitely all American. McDonalds? That’s it.06-07-07_1753

But, what they had for lunch that day was sausage in a roll and jacket potato wedges. I think that this loosely translates into American English as hotdogs and french fries. Anyway, the kids liked it.

Early in the week Noah’s teacher, Miss Yates, read the (US) pledge of allegiance to the class. After reading a couple of lines she noticed that Noah was saying it along with her. She invited him to the front of the class to recite it for the class which he did while only muddling (read messing up) a few lines. So she had him practice it a few times during the week. Then on Friday he stood up in front of the school assembly and said the pledge for the whole school! To be honest, I had to ask him where he learned it because I know his parents teach it to him. He said he learned it at the Children’s Center in Nashville. So I guess that was money well spent.

WhatI want to know is if he said the pledge with an English accent?
What a guy. He may be taking after his sister in the performance area.

What a great blog! My wife and I like to see how other people display their family blogs, including photo layouts etc. Yours is very bright and cheerful. Suddenly, I realize I need more photos on my site.

Oh, and I’m a little horrified to hear the school was serving McDonald’s. I guess there aren’t a lot of Subway Restaurants there (that’s where all of us snobs get our fast-food.)
